Dr. Hoefer earned his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1977 and completed his General Surgery Internship and Residency at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas in 1983. After residency, he completed a Surgical Oncology Fellowship at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in 1984.

Following his fellowship, Dr. Hoefer served at David Grant USAF Medical Center and at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center as a Surgical Oncologist and Residency Training Officer from 1984 to 1989.  During this time he also was the Consultant to the Surgeon General in Cancer Surgery.  Dr. Hoefer returned to active military service in 1990 to serve as Chief of Surgery for the 159th MASH stationed in Iraq during the Persian Gulf War.

Since locating to the Peninsula in 1991, Dr. Hoefer has devoted his practice to surgical oncology, specializing in breast, colorectal, hepatobiliary, pancreatic and melanoma surgery. 
He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology.

Dr. Hoefer has contributed over 20 articles and abstracts to the literature, and recently won the Hume award from the Virginia Surgical Society for his personal series of pancreatic resections. He is a founding member of the Dorothy G. Hoefer Comprehensive Breast Center, and is also the current Director of Cancer Services at Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton Virginia.

Dr. Miller graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Pharmacy. He received his doctorate from the Philadelphia College of Ostepathic Medicine where he was valedictorian and a member of the Sigma Alpha Omicron Honor Society.

He completed a surgical internship at the Doctor's Hospital/Ohio Health. His residency was completed at Eastern Virginia Medical School where he was Chief Resident.

Dr. Miller was awarded the 2005 American Brachytherapy Society Prostate Fellowship Award at the Seattle Prostate Institute. He is board certified by the American Board of Radiology and the American Osteopathic Board of Radiology as a specialist in Radiation Oncology.

Dr. Miller resides in Virginia Beach with his wife and two sons and enjoys boating and various other fitness activities.

 

Song K. Kang, MD Song K. Kang, M.D.

A native of Alexandria, Virginia, Dr. Song K. Kang attended the University of Virginia and received his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine. Kang completed his residency at Duke University Medical Center where he served as Chief Resident.

Board Certified in Radiation Oncology from the American Board of Radiology, Kang has served on committees for the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology and has been a journal reviewer.

An advocate of clinical research, Kang has authored publications in journals including Cancer, New England Journal of Medicine, and the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology and Physics, as well as chapters in the textbook, Principles and Practice of Radiation Oncology. He has also presented his research at national meetings including American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, American Society for Clinical Oncology, and Radiation Research Society.

Prior to joining Virginia Oncology Associates, Kang practiced and served as the Clinical Director of Radiation Oncology at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, where he was appointed Assistant Professor of Radiology. An enthusiast of the arts and recreation, Kang enjoys classical music, and an array of competitive sports including tennis and racquetball. He lives in Williamsburg, Virginia with his wife and two young children.
