Bernard
Bernard, Le Bonheur's hospital puppet, helps children learn about surgery through hands-on experience. The children dress up as surgeons and take their patient, Bernard, to the Bunny Room, the pre-operative room, the surgery suite and the recovery room. During the process, the children play out the events of surgery, including using a real anesthesia mask to place Bernard into a "magic, special sleep."
Participation in this program helps reduce the child's fear of the unknown by giving them a better understanding of what he or she will experience as a patient. This makes the surgery process a lot easier on the parent and the child.
