Hartford Hospital

Hartford, CT- For cancer patients with certain types of inoperable tumors of the lung, liver, kidney or bone, percutaneous cryoablation is an option for local control (palliation). It also has the potential for reducing symptoms in some patients and could be a potential cure for patients who are otherwise untreatable.

The demands of each patient have to be evaluated. Using miniaturized probes inserted thru tiny nicks in the skin, Hartford Hospital interventional radiologists freeze tumor under direct CT or ultrasound visualization. These probes employ internally circulating argon gas to create an ice ball that surrounds the tumor and destroys it.

Radiologists at Hartford Hospital performed the procedure in a live webcast on May 10th at 6 o'clock pm. Click here to read more about the procedure.
