The da Vinci® System features a special console that has hand and foot controls to move the robotic arms. A tiny 3-D camera is used to help the surgeon see as he performs intricate surgical procedures. The da Vinci® translates the surgeons natural hand motions at the control console into corresponding movements of the robotic instruments. The precision of movement as well as the minimally invasive nature of this technology provide substantially improved outcomes for patients, especially in the treatment of prostrate cancer. These benefits include less post-operative pain, less risk of infection, less blood loss, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery.
