Educational Objectives:

• Healthcare providers will become better able to apply national association and expert-based guidelines articulating the indications and goals of pharmacologic management of AD.
• Practitioners will learn how to manage and evaluate patient and caregiver expectations, effects of drug therapy, and manage potential side effects of pharmacologic therapy.
• Physicians will learn how to identify treatment triggers and monitor patient response to therapy.
• Physicians will learn how to apply expert analysis and evidence to real world, clinical practice issues pertaining to patients with AD.
• Clinicians will become skilled in the role of gradual, methodological, and persistent approaches to drug dosing, up- and down-titration of medications shown to be effective in AD.
• Practitioners will become better able to assess, monitor, and respond to medication-related side effects, and determine the need for cessation of drug therapy.
• Physicians will learn how to identify behavioral disturbances that may trigger the need for both non-pharmacologic intervention, depending on severity of the behavior.
• Physicians will learn how to incorporate improvement, stabilization, and/or delay in progression of cognitive and/or behavioral dysfunction as end points for their treatment plans.
• Physicians will become more proficient in patient and family counseling issues related to global care of the AD patient, including issues related to drug therapy.
• Physicians will become familiar with the ethical, medical, and caregiver issues related to not treating patients eligible for and amenable to clinical benefits of drug therapy.
