MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN— Nationally recognized Neurosurgeons at
St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee, the state’s largest
tertiary hospital, webcasted an innovative surgical procedure, Cervical
Discectomy with Fusion Anterior Approach (ACDF). Dr. Arvind Ahuja, Chairman
of the Section of Neurosurgery at St. Luke’s, performed the operation.
Dr. Alexander T. Hawkins narrated the “interactive” procedure.
Participants communicated directly with Drs. Ahuja and Hawkins into
the operating room at St. Luke’s Medical Center during the CME
and CEU event to ask questions and discuss the procedure. Following
the webcast, participants should have been better able to:
• Discuss the history and rational for ACDF as a spine fusion
technique
•Recognize the relative points of value using the anterior approach
compared to other traditional approaches
• Cite the basic technique and materials used in an ACDF procedure
• Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using allografts
vs. autografts bone stabilizers for cervical fusion
St. Luke’s Medical Center is a part of Aurora Health Care, a not-for-profit
