Marshfield, WI-Mitral valve repair is an open-heart procedure performed to treat leakage of the mitral valve, the inflow valve for the left side of the heart.

Mitral valve repair was the focus of a live webcast, hosted by Marshfield Clinic and Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, WI, first seen on Wednesday, February 22. Featured was expert commentary throughout the broadcast by physicians - Paul Pearson, M.D.; C.C. Lee, M.D.; P. Daniel Horton, M.D.; and Hope Maki, M.D., Marshfield Clinic Cardiologists and Cardiovascular Surgeons on staff at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, a Top 100 Heart Hospital for the past four years.

Besides commentary, the broadcast included a pre-taped segment demonstrating the mitral valve procedure and questions from the Internet audience.

Each year, more than 50,000 procedures are performed on the mitral valve, which regulates blood flow from the left atrium, or holding chamber, to the left ventricle, the heart’s main pumping chamber. More surgeries for heart valve disease have been performed at the Marshfield medical complex than any other institution in the region.
