About the Procedure

Bloomington, Ind. – Cook Surgisis® ES™ Soft Tissue Graft from Cook Surgical, a natural solution for repairing paraesophageal/hiatal hernias, will be spotlighted in an hour-long live webcast on OR Live (www.or-live.com) July 24 at 3 p.m. PDT. This product is used to reinforce soft tissue. Surgisis® ES™ restores strength and function to the crura while protecting the esophagus.

Brant Oelschlager, M.D., will perform the hernia repair procedure using Cook Surgisis® ES™. Dr. Oelschlager is the director of both the Center for Videoendoscopic Surgery and the Swallowing Center, and an associate professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Washington.

All Cook Surgisis® ES™ products are manufactured by Cook Biotech from small intestinal submucosa (SIS) technology. A breakthrough for tissue repair derived from porcine small intestine, SIS is processed into a biocompatible medical product using a patented process to produce a three dimensional, extracellular matrix comprised of collagen, non-collagenous proteins and other biomolecules.

Once implanted, host tissue cells and blood vessels readily colonize the graft. The result is a site-specific tissue remodeling. During the remodeling process Cook Surgisis® ES™ provides sufficient mechanical strength for tissue support.
