Alexander Onopchenko, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Alexander Onopchenko, M.D., F.A.C.S.Dr. Onopchenko graduated from Ursinus College with a BS in Biology in 1979 on the Dean’s Academic Honors list. He obtained his doctorate in medicine from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1984 with honors, completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1989, and has been a practicing general and vascular surgery in Atlantic County since July of 1989.Dr. Onopchenko is Board Certified in General Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), and a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). He also is an active Fellow in the American Society of Bariatric Surgery (ASBS). He is contracted by Ethicon Endo-Surgery Inc. to proctor bariatric and advanced laparoscopic surgeries. Dr. Onopchenko has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery. He was the first surgeon to perform a laparoscopic cholecystectomy in Atlantic County. Dr. Onopchenko’s interest in bariatrics comes from seeing friends and family struggle with obesity and recognizing such a great need for bariatric services in the southeastern New Jersey region. He is the medical director of the Center for Surgical Weight Loss & Wellness at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center.


Samir Patel, M.D.


Samir Patel, M.D.Dr. Samir Patel was born and raised in New York City. He attended the Bronx High School of Science, where he was a member of the fencing team. A graduate of Cornell University with a degree in biochemistry, Dr. Patel studied medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine where he graduated with honors. Dr. Patel did his residency in general surgery at State University of New York at Brooklyn. After completing his residency, he did a fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopy and Bariatric Surgery at the Staten Island University Hospital under the tutelage of George Ferzli, M.D. world-renowned laparoscopic surgeon. Dr. Samir Patel has published several articles about laparoscopy and bariatric surgery. He is currently a member of the Society of the American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), American Society of Bariatric Surgery (ASBS), Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons (ACS), and the American Medical Association (AMA).
